The projects include, an assembly hall complex, which was executed with the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) at a cost of GHc801,000, a one-storey 12-unit classroom block for the Mafi-Kumase Senior High Technical School at  GHc480,000, a six-unit classroom block for the Global District Assembly Primary School at Adidome at a cost of GH¢178,000 both by the GETFund, and a rural enterprises project with a rural technology facility at GH¢300,000.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Komla Ganyaglo who inaugurated the projects, assured the people that the government was committed to sharing  the national cake evenly to all parts of the country irrespective of location, adding that many projects would also be executed under the chapter two of the “Better Ghana Agenda” initiative.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the decline in the performance of students at the Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) in the region, and said as at last year, the performance fell abysmally to 27 per cent.

Mr Ganyaglo urged students and pupils to  respect their teachers and parents in order to boost academic performance and to gain admission to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) established in the region.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Tongu, Mr Joe Gidisu, said majority of schools under trees had been eliminated in the district, stressing that the mere provision of school buildings alone could not raise standards unless students and pupils took their lessons more seriously.

He said in the absence of cocoa, timber, gold and other treasures in the area, education should be treated as the greatest resource to enhance human development.

Mr Gidisu urged communities to embark on the construction of teachers’ quarters to avoid a situation where some teachers stayed far away from school to their discomfort and as a result, were unable to deliver quality services.

At the rural technology facility, the Central Tongu District Chief Executive, Alhaji Bubey Dzinadu, said it was the second to be established in the Volta Region, jointly sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Ghana government.

He said it was opened to skilled learners from Central Tongu, North Tongu, Ada East, Ada West and Akatsi districts and that, youthful school leavers must take advantage of the facility to  provide themselves with employable skills since they would be provided with tools after graduation.

At the Mafi–Kumase Senior Technical High School, the headmaster, Mr K. M. Ahiaklo-Kuz said although the school  had a population of 748, it lacked a science laboratory, a dining hall, staff bungalows, means of transport and an assembly hall.

He said the school scored 100 per cent in West African School Certificate Examination (WASCCE) in the past three consecutive years.

In his remark, the Dufia of Adidome, Togbui Kwesinyi Adzima IV,  called for the implementation of a scholarship scheme for deprived and needy students at the Adidome Senior High School.
