Four die in bus plunge

Four persons including a one-year-old girl died when the VIP Youtong Bus on which they were travelling with was involved in an accident on the Cape Coast Takoradi road.

The dead include two men and a woman all yet to be identified.

Forty-three injured others including three in very critical condition are receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching hospital.

According to the police, the accident occurred at about 7.30 am Saturday morning when an articulated truck with registration number BA 438-09 and the Youtong bus with registration number GR 4844-13 were negotiating a curve around Aduagyei.

The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godfred Asare told the Daily Graphic the driving mirrors of the two vehicles clashed when the vehicles came too close in the middle of the road.

Mr Asare said the impact of the clash forced the Youtong bus to skid off the road and plunge into a ditch.

He said the driver of the articulated truck who failed to stop after the accident was pursued and has been arrested by the Elmina police.

According to the Regional Manager of the Road Safety Commission, Mr Stephen Anokye, some of the accidents on the roads could be prevented if drivers were a little more cautious. He advised drivers to observe driving regulations to avoid such accidents.
