Foundation builds ramp for physically challenged pupils

Physically challenged pupils of the Dar es Salaam Junior High School at Teshie in Accra, can now heave a sigh of relief, following the construction of a ramp by a non-governmental organisation, More Hope for the Disabled Foundation (MHDF), at a cost of GH¢2,200 for  the school.

The facility is to help physically challenged pupils in the school to have easy access to their classrooms as well as encourage them to attend school regularly, and also make it possible for parents, guardians and benefactors who are also physically challenged to attend PTA meetings.

At a ceremony to unveil the ramp, a social welfare enterpreneur, Mr Bernard Boye, who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Seth Badu, commended the members of the MHDF, who are themselves physically challenged, for building the ramp from their own resources in support of others who are also incapacitated.

He urged the headteachers and pupils of the school to take good care of the facility and ensure that it lasted longer to serve the purpose for which it was built, stressing that, anyone could become physically challenged at a point in life, and was therefore necessary that society supported those with such conditions.

The President of the MHDF, Mr Joseph Odey Mensah, unveiled the ramp in the company of other dignitaries and demonstrated the way it could be accessed, noting that the execution of the project was a dream come true for the foundation and expressed the desire of his outfit to do more for the community.

He challenged the community not to shun people who are physically challenged but rather support them since they were capable of contributing significantly to the development of the community and the nation at large.
