“You! Why be a Failure When You Can be a Success” is a 178-page book authored by Mr Benjamin Aryee, an accomplished civil servant and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission.

“Being successful or success is an innate need of all human beings. Many people are looking at success as financial success, money: that is all they think about when they talk about success. But that is a very myopic view of success,” the author said at the launch of the book last Monday.

Mr Aryee said focusing on money alone might look attractive and palatable in the short term but with time, it would not be enough.

The book

A non-fiction, the author’s first literary work encourages young people to have a better chance of attaining true success in their professional lives and careers and talks about how to manage life on the physical plane, including health, wellness and longevity.

How to attain success in social networks and relations, family life and in the spiritual life have also been treated in the book.

“What the book seeks to do is to look at success more holistically; from childhood right through to when one goes on retirement and beyond. Finances are important.

However, it should be a tool to help you do other things rather than it being a goal,” Mr Aryee explained.

He advised people to plan their lives in order to be successful in all dimensions of their lives.

“Parents have a role to play, children have to realise that what they do today is a seed they are sowing for tomorrow. So once that context is painted, it makes it easier to get it to others,” he said.

Launch

Launching the book, the immediate past President of the Ghana Union Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA), Pastor Samuel Adama Larmie, said the book was different from other books on success that he was familiar with.

“This book is a unique book on success. There are many books on success but they focus on financial success, or one aspect of success; but this book is holistic. It defines success in such a way that you know you are not only focusing on money but how you apply yourself to life,” Pastor Larmie said.

The pastor recommended the book to the public, saying: “It is a form of testimony and manual for everybody who wants to succeed in life. I am inspired myself by the book. No matter how difficult your situation is, if you focus on God, learn from the past and plan well for the future, you will succeed,” he declared.
