Accra floods: Officials evacuate Shell fuel station near disaster scene

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has initiated precautionary measures to prevent a recurrence of Wednesday’s inferno at the Goil Filling Station near the GCB Towers at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Officials of the GNFS Friday morning began siphoning the fuel at the Shell Filling Station opposite the Goil Filling Station which was razed down by fire Wednesday night.

According to officials, this step is necessary since the fuel has been polluted with flood waters, Accra radio station, Joy FM reported.

Meanwhile, the area where the accident occurred has been cordoned off to prevent people from tampering with evidence needed for investigations.

Wednesday’s double disaster of a flood and fire at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and its surrounding areas resulted in the death of over 150 people.

Properties worth millions of Ghana cedis were also destroyed, as buildings were submerged as a result of the flood.
