But for the timely intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the raging fire would have engulfed nearby shops and houses.

No life was lost, but two persons at the fuel station sustained various degrees of injury.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the GNFS, Mr Arhin Mensah, said his men in the area received a distress call about the fire outbreak at a fuel station in Odumase around 4.55 p.m. on Saturday.

He said the personnel brought the fire under control and helped to send the two injured persons to hospital for treatment.

He expressed worry over the rate at which fuel stations were being established at unauthorised and dangerous places in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, although the GNFS was mandated to endorse the establishment of fuel stations, the service did not know anything about the establishment of those fuel stations.
