The three collective management of the copyright owners are Audiovisual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG), Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and the Reprographic Rights Organisation of Ghana (COPYGHANA).

The aim of the three bodies is to use the AFA to create opportunities for the creative arts and culture industry in the country to make arts and culture a major destination by bringing foreign industry players to interact with local artistes.

Press briefing

Briefing journalists in Accra, the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the AFA, Mr Asare Konadu Yamoah, said he believed the festival would create an avenue for the local artistes to achieve their full potential.

He said the festival would also create the opportunity for the artistes to exchange ideas and create a dynamic as well as vibrant platform to market arts in the country.

“The festival is a kaleidoscope of the colourful cultural experiences of Ghanaians, showcased in a total array of artistic expositions which will be launched on August 19 this year at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra,” he stated.

Highlighting the need to bring artistes across the globe, Mr Yamoah indicated that it would give Ghanaians a bigger platform to tell their various stories in music, film, books, painting, sculpture, drama and other imaginative forms of art.

He disclosed that the festival would be celebrated biannually to serve as a common platform for both renowned as well as upcoming talents.

Mr Yamoah expressed the hope that the festival would expose and integrate local artistes or rights owners with the international entertainment, arts and cultural arena.

He appealed to the media to support in projecting the festival and should, therefore, contribute to bringing them to the limelight.

Activities

Explaining the choice of the name for the festival, the Chairman of GHAMRO, Mr Rex Owusu Marfo, also known as Rex Omar said ‘Atuu’ was a national word in the country used by all Ghanaians, saying it was adopted to interpret the universally acclaimed Ghanaian hospitality.

Elaborating on the activities for the festivals, he mentioned that the festival would be preceded with various activities that would take place in selected towns and cities in the country.

“The activities will include live drama performances, musical concerts, book and poetry reading, arts and book exhibitions, traditional Ghanaian cuisine bazaar among other petitions to promote upcoming artistes,” he said.
