Explosion at factory kills one at Tema

One person was killed, and another injured Friday morning after an explosion at Delta Agro, a manufacturer of soaps at the Tema Industrial Area.

The injured is receiving treatment at the Lagoon Hospital in Tema.

According to the Administrative Manager of the company, Mr Ampomah, the explosion occurred when workers tried to clean a tank containing dirty oil.

“According to the workers they were trying to desilt it and in the course of trying to dislodge it, they had to cut an area then all of a sudden the thing exploded,” he said in a radio interview with Accra based Citi FM.

A fire officer, Divisional Officer One, Osafo Afum told Accra based radio, Class FM that the fire service received the report about the incident around 10:21am.

He said the tank which exploded contained dirty oil and that some contractors were working on it at the time, there was a built up pressure and it caused the tank to explode.

He said two casualties were recorded, one died and one is in the hospital.
