Four people have been gunned down in a chieftaincy dispute at Enchi in the Western North Region.

The bodies of the deceased were earlier seen lying on the street on Sunday morning.

The police have since carried the bodies to the morgue and managed to restore calm at Enchi with investigations underway to help unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The dawn gun battle saw many people running helter skelter in Enchi.

One woman got injured and currently receiving treatment at the Enchi Government Hospital.

The Police in a statement has confirmed the death of the four after the violent chieftaincy dispute.


Security has since been beefed up in the chief's palace, the Enchi township and surrounding communities.

Investigation is ongoing and crime scene experts and reinforcement teams have been dispatched from the Police headquarters in Accra and surrounding Police
Regions to support the Western North Regional Police Command.

Graphic Online’s Dotsey Koblah Aklorbortu reports that the police in Enchi in the Aowin Municipality have launched a manhunt for suspects.

The incident started at about 5:30am Sunday.

A total of five people were shot in what is said to be a gun battle, which resulted in the death of four of them.

One woman is in a critical condition at the Enchi Government Hospital.

A police source told Graphic Online that the yet to be identified gunmen entered the chief’s palace and engaged in a fierce gun battle.

The police arrived at the scene to see both parties firing at each other from different angles.

 The police managed to bring the situation under control and secured the palace and prevented further bloodshed.

A complainant from the chief’s palace has since given statements to the police.

The Omanhene, and the elders of the traditional council as well as the surviving woman at the hospital have given various accounts to the police.

The dawn battle caused many residents of the town to flee.

The police said the bodies of those killed have since been deposited at the government hospital while investigations are ongoing and called for public support to apprehend the perpetrators.
