Drug peddler remanded

Saviour Dorvlo, a 32-year-old man, has been remanded in custody by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, for unlawful drug possession.

Briefing the court, the Prosecuting Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reindolph Agyemang, said Dorvlo was a carver at the Arts Centre in Accra. He hails from the Volta Region.

According to DSP Agyemang, on June 13, 2013, the Narcotic Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) embarked on an anti-narcotic operation within the Accra Metropolis.

He said the team visited the Arts Centre, a popular place on the High Street, where they met Dorvlo. A search conducted on him revealed 19 wrapped dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and a quantity of similar substances in a yellow polythene bag.

Dorvlo, according to the prosecutor, was arrested and sent to the unit for further investigations.

In his caution statement, he admitted knowledge and ownership of the exhibits and said he had been selling cannabis for the past five months.

The exhibits have been sent to the forensic science laboratory for examination.
