Dr Awal is Best Performing Minister for 2018 — SurveyThe Minister of Business Development, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, has been named the Best Performing Minister for 2018 in a survey conducted by the research firm, FAKS Investigative Service.

Dr  Awal secured 4,211 votes, representing 93.18 per cent of respondents.
 
The Minister of Regional Reorganisation, Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, came second, with the Minister of Railway Development, Mr Joe Ghartey, and the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, placing third and fourth, respectively.

Initiatives

According to the researchers, some of the initiatives by the Ministry of Business Development that informed respondents’ decision included the Presidential Pitch, the business idea contest that gave support to 20 beneficiaries with amounts ranging between GH¢25,000 and GH¢50,000, and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), which offered support to 7,000 young entrepreneurs with start-ups and small businesses across the country.

Apart from the project assessment, the researchers said they also took into consideration opinions from the public on the performance of ministers, deputy ministers, chief executive officers (CEOs) of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and Members of Parliament.

Other categories

The research firm also named the Deputy Minister of Regional Organisation and Development, Mr Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, as the Best Deputy Minister; the CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi, the Best CEO of SOEs; the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, the Best Regional Minister; and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Best MP.
