In a stern warning, Mr Nitiwul said any attempt by any person or group of persons would not be taken lightly.

He said, “I will make it straight to the people who are daring the taskforce not to do that because the country is behind the taskforce. Don’t dare them. It will not be in your interest to dare them.”

“The country is behind them and we will do everything and anything to make this nation a success,” he added.

Mr Nitiwul was speaking at the launch of an anti-galamsey taskforce coded “Operation Vanguard” on Monday.

Expressing worry over the level of destruction by illegal miners, Mr Nitiwul urged members of the taskforce be professional in their operation.

“As you go out to the fields to help the people of Ghana stop forever this menace of illegal mining, that has rendered systems not able to produce water, rendered rivers dried of fish and rendered lands invaluable to farming. I wish and I hope that when we tell this story, it will be a story of success.”

“I know that the men and women of the Ghana armed forces are professionals, the men and women of the police service are professionals and that you will do a professional job,” he said.
