Ghana Highway Authority to undertake repair works on Ashaiman overpas

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) will from August 1 to 22, 2021 undertake repair works on the damaged beams on the Ashaiman overpass.

Part of the Ashaiman overpass which connects Ashaiman, Tema and Accra got damaged nearly two years ago when a haulage truck rammed a cargo into it.

The truck, with registration number GT 559-U was transporting a biomass fired steam boiler from the Tema Port to a tissue paper manufacturing company at Budumburam in the Central Region when it got stuck under the overpass on the motorway as a result of the cargo exceeding the five-metre allowable axel limit from the ground.

The damage left the the iron rods and pipes within the reinforced concrete being exposed.

Repair Notice

A repair notice issued by the acting Chief Executive Officer of the GHA, Mr Baba Kassim Nuhu dated July 27, 2021 announced that that the Tema - Accra bound stretch of the Tema Motorway will experience some minimum to maximum traffic disruption between the period.

The statement

It said that traffic diversions will therefore be made available at designated areas of the Tema to Accra bound and Ashaiman towards Accra to facilitate the free flow of traffic during the construction.

"While we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that may arise as a result of the repair works, we advise motorists to kindly observe the diversion signs in the construction area", Mr Nuhu said.
