Deputy Director Gen., CID, denies intimidating A-Plus

The Deputy Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrs Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has categorically denied intimidating Kwame Asare Darko (alias A-Plus) in any conversation.

She has expressed dissatisfaction with the calculated and dastardly attempt by A-Plus to soil her reputation and condemn same in no uncertain terms that it was a calculated attempt to distract her from her work.

A statement issued in Accra on Thursday and signed by ACP Addo-Danquah indicated that she remained a committed police officer who would fight and expose crime wherever she found it, and regardless of who was involved.

Purported conversation

She indicated that her attention had been drawn to a purported telephone conversation between a supposed senior police office and A-Plus in respect of investigation of allegations made by him against the two deputy chiefs of staff.

The Deputy CID Director General indicated that her picture and a voice recording purporting to be hers had also been associated with the said conversation and shared on social media and stated the unequivocal facts for the records.

That the A-Plus corruption allegations were thoroughly investigated by a team of four senior detectives, headed by the Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Bright Oduro, of which she was a member.

Subject matter

In the course of the investigations, she had series of discussions relating to the subject matter with A-Plus, some of which were via telephone.

She said of particular significance among others was her insistence for A-Plus to document his denial of the thievery allegation against the two deputy chiefs of staff by coming back to give a further statement but he failed to report back to document his denial of the thievery allegation even though he had categorically stated same in his verbal narration.

“I wish to categorically and emphatically state that I have never intimated to A-Plus in any conversation whatsoever that I believe that his allegation of corruption against the two senior government officials had been confirmed following our investigations,” she said.

A Plus

Denial documents

According to ACP Addo-Danquah, she could not possibly have come to that conclusion when at the time she spoke to  A-Plus insisting that he should document his denial of thievery against the two, the investigative team had not had the benefit of a response from the two appointees.

She said having listened to the purported telephone conversation between herself and A-Plus many times, it was very obvious that her conversation with him had been doctored and or edited to achieve a deliberate mischievous and evil purpose.

ACP Addo-Danquah said much of the content of the said tape was a total fabrication and a figment of the author’s imagination as he mischievously picked some aspect of her voice in a later conversation she had with him when the report was released.

Discerning Ghanaians

“Significantly, it is imperative to indicate that the said telephone conversation that has been doctored or edited lasted for 56 seconds. It should be clear to discerning Ghanaians that the said mischievous recording lasted for over five minutes,” she said.

The Deputy Director General said after the report was released on Monday, September 18, 2017, A-Plus called her on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 to disagree with the findings and after that he sent a text message and threatened to put her voice in the public domain because the team had insulted him by saying the allegations were baseless.

Lacks credibility

ACP Addo-Danquah remained fully in agreement with the conclusions reached by the investigative team which was that the allegations of corruption levelled against the two deputy chiefs of staff were completely baselesss and without merit and also lacked credibility.

“Indeed, the accuser provided no evidence at all to back his allegations and the investigative panel found no wrongdoing. His statement to the police, as well as the investigative report, evidences this conclusion beyond doubt. The foregoing are the bare facts relating to my dealings with the accuser,” she said.

Background

Following an allegation of corruption made by A-Plus against the two deputy chiefs of staff, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the CID to investigate the issue and after painstaking investigations, led by the Director General of the CID, COP Mr  Oduro, the allegations turned out to be baseless and without merit.

The two deputy chiefs of staff were, therefore, exonerated of all corruption charges levelled against them by A-Plus.

At a recent conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Cape Coast on August 26, 2017, the President vowed not to preside over a corrupt government and warned his appointees that the law would catch up with them if they engaged in practices that demeaned good governance.

He said any allegation of corruption against any of his appointees would be investigated, vigorously and thoroughly, by the security agencies.

“I am not going to preside over a government that is corrupt; any allegation made against any of my officials that is genuine would be investigated,” President Akufo-Addo said.
