Dansoman Marshallans support Korle Bu Children’s Block
The Dansoman branch of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a Catholic friendly society, has presented a cheque for GH¢1,000 and items worth GH¢2,000 to the Oncology (Cancer) Unit of the Korle-Bu Children’s Block.
Items presented included bed sheets and toiletries, as part of its charity programme.
Presenting the cheque to the unit, the Grand Knight of Council 71, Brother Henry Eshun, said he came to understand the plight of the unit some years ago when he sent a patient there.
He added that he was aware of the many challenges the unit faced, and expressed the hope that the gesture would help to bring some relief to the unit and “make life comfortable for the children who are on admission there.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the unit, the Matron in-charge, Miss Mona Sackey, called on benevolent societies, organisations and individuals to emulate the gesture, adding that cancer patients had so many challenges due to the cost involved in their treatment and that hampered the activities of the unit.
“Nursing them is very difficult because most of the drugs are expensive and health insurance does not cover them, hence the inability of patients to get them since most of them are from poor homes,” she said.
The Noble Lady of Court 63, Sister Sylvia Afi Akani, gave the assurance that the society would continue to support the unit.
