CSSPS to be reviewed for smooth placement of BECE candidates

The Computerised School Selection and placement System (CSSPS) is to be reviewed before this year’s placement exercise begins to admit first-year senior high school students to senior high schools.

The review which is aimed at fine-tuning the placement exercise would help improve on the system to ensure a smooth placement of students.

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof.Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, made this known to the Junior Graphic on the sidelines of the a three-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service for some selected journalists from the various regions.

According to him, the exercise to improve on the placement exercise would begin in May this year before the commencement of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

This year’s BECE would be written from June 4-8 throughout the country.

Prof. Opoku-Amankwa said the review of the CSSPS was to address the challenges that came with the placement last year, adding that the GES was going to put the necessary measures in place to ensure a successful placement this year.

Candidates to be placed this year would be the second batch of students to benefit from the Free SHS Programme which was implemented during the 2017-2018 academic year.

About 400,000 students are currently benefitting from the programme.
