Criminal activities go down in Oda

Criminal activities in seven districts under the Oda Divisional Police Command in the Eastern Region have reduced.

The reduction in the crime rate in the division was due to the measures put in place by the divisional command. They include an increase in the number of anti-robbery patrol teams, intensification of snap checks at some vantage points at  Akyem Oda and other towns, intensive visibility patrols and increased monitoring by the Criminal Investigations Department.

The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Ebenezer Ampofo, announced this at the annual celebration of the West African Security Services Association (WASSA) at Akyem Oda.

He stressed that the snap checks undertaken in the area to help reduce crime had yielded positive results and would be sustained. Mr Ampofo also advised police personnel to ensure that they did not abuse the rights of civilians.

The divisional commander said due to budgetary constraints, the service had not been able to develop an 89-acre plot allocated to the police at Oda by the late Omanhene of Akyem Kotoku, Okoforobuor Agyeman Attafuah IV, for the construction of a modern divisional headquarters and office complex, barracks and training school.

He, however, cautioned prospective developers and encroachers to stay away from the land.

The Akyem Anyinasehene, who is a former Member of the Council of State, Osabarima Owusu Gyamadu, praised the police for ensuring effective security in the area, especially during the power outages.
