COVID-19 in Ghana: Cases now 7,881 with 5,004 active cases

Ghana's coronavirus disease (Covid-19) case count rose by 113 new cases to a total of 7,881 on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

The country also announced one more coronavirus related death as the death toll from the illness rose to 36.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) update indicates that the country now has 5,004 active cases after recovery figures rose by 301 people to 2,841.

The country now has an incidence rate of 25.36 per 100,000 people and a case-fatality ratio of 0.46%.

36th death

The GHS update further disclosed that the 36th death is of a 93-year-old man who reported to an Accra-based hospital with COVID-19-related symptoms.

The update indicated that he had an underlying health condition including hypertension and Prostate Cancer.

“A 93-year-old male, a known hypertensive and also with prostate cancer was admitted in a hospital in Accra with a complaint of difficulty in breathing and cough. COVID-19 was suspected and patient isolated at the emergency room. COVID-19 samples were taken on 26th May 2020 and result then confirmed as positive,” the Ghana Health Service reported.

Regional breakdown

The Ahafo Region remains the only region without a COVID-19 case in Ghana. The remaining 15 regions have all recorded cases with the Greater Accra region having recorded the highest number with 5,507 cases.
