The two, a 20-year-old mechanic apprentice, Alex Agbedugu, and his 18-year-old girlfriend,  Sala Mohammed, were arrested at a hideout at Ashaiman having in their possession a pump action gun and a pistol with live cartridges and ammunition.

They are to reappear before the court on August 12, 2013.

They were charged with possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.

The Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Eklu, told the Daily Graphic that on July 15, 2013, the Ashaiman Divisional Police, in response to public complaints of harassment at Ashaiman-Katamanso, mounted an operation to stem the rampant robbery in the area.

He said the suspects were arrested in a kiosk  at Newland, a suburb of Ashaiman.

According to him, a search in the kiosk led to the discovery and seizure of the gun and ammunition.

He said the suspects could not tell the source of the firearms during interrogation.
