Coronavirus: 13 health workers at Ho Hospital to self-quarantine

A number of health workers said to have come into contact with a person infected with Covid-19 at the Ho Teaching Hospital, have been asked to self-quarantine.

The health workers, numbering about 13, were said to have attended to the patient who was rushed in unconscious.

The hospital temporarily shut the Emergency Unit for fumigation but has since been functional.

The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Amos Dzah who confirmed the incident to Accra-based Citi FM, said the patient was rushed into the hospital on Sunday evening (10th May 2020) at about 5:30 pm.

He said it was noticed that the patient, upon being resuscitated showed some of the symptoms of the novel coronavirus disease.

“At the triage area, they tried to revive, they weren’t successful so other nurses and doctors had to join and try to resuscitate the patient and fortunately they were able to resuscitate the patient but from further observation, they realised that the patient was exhibiting some of the symptoms of COVID”, he explained.

This he said, resulted in the patient getting tested and the results came in two hours from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) laboratory.

Mr Dzah said the place had to be closed and disinfected while the doctors and nurses who tried to revive him have since been asked to self-quarantine.

“Some of the health workers, ie the doctors and nurses, were asked to self-quarantine but others (from other units) have been working from other units to run the place”, he said.
