Citizen journalism cost my husband his life — Kaaka’s wife

The wife of the late Kaaka, Sahada Nuhu, believes that the social media activities of her husband could have been the cause of his death.

She said prior to the attack that led to his death, Kaaka had informed her that some members of his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had warned him to stop putting videos and pictures of uncompleted projects within Ejura on social media.

According to her, these people claimed his activity was casting a slur on the image of the party and warned him to desist from it or had himself to blame.

Warnings

Ms Nuhu, who appeared before the Justice Koomson Committee of Inquiry probing the June 29, 2021 shooting incident of Ejura that led to the death of two people, said her late husband kept her updated on all events in his life, particularly the threat of death from his own party members.

The demure woman, who spotted a hijab to cover her hair to the upper part of her body, said her late husband was an active member of the NPP and took part in all party activities at the constituency level at Ejura.

She noted that aside from his profession as a fashion designer and mobile phone repairer, he was also engaged in social activities that exposed the ills in society.

She said the latter brought him into conflicts with the powers that be in the town as some members saw his acts to be detrimental to the party.

Names

Although she said the husband informed her about the death threats, she said he did not mention any specific person, as such, she was unable to provide the committee with any names.

Attack

On the night of the attack that led to his death, Ms Nuhu said she was fast asleep when she was awoken by her neighbour that her husband had been killed.

She said it was the same woman who told the police that she did not see those who attacked the late Kaaka that turned round to say that she saw Kaaka’s elder brother, Iddi Mohammed, as the one who killed him.

To the best of her knowledge, she said there was no bad blood between the two siblings as they had lived peacefully over the years without any issue.

Invitation to the police

Contrary to the claim by the police that the family of the late Kaaka requested a police protection which explained the presence of the police riot control vehicle at the cemetery, Ms Nuhu said no family had requested a police protection.

She denied knowledge of any invitation to the police for protection during the burial of the late Kaaka.

Request

Her only request to the committee was for it to ensure that the killers of her husband were found and the appropriate punishment meted out to them.

Concern

Before giving her evidence, the widow inquired from the committee if it was investigating the death of her husband or was on a different mission.

The chairman informed her that the committee was not investigating the death of her husband but instead, the incidents that led to the shooting on the 29th and believed that her husband's death was a precursor to the events.

However, Justice Koomson told her that she was at liberty to leave if she did not feel comfortable testifying before the committee.

Ms Nuhu elected to go ahead with the evidence and explained that she had nothing to hide and would not mind speaking publicly about it.

Nuhu and Kaaka have five children, all girls, with the oldest being 18 years in SHS1 and the youngest aged two and half years.
