The Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Theodora Wood, has charged churches to focus more on addressing the needs of communities.

She also urged Christians to exhibit the good qualities of Christ wherever they found themselves to ensure that they earn the praise of observers.

The Chief Justice made the call in a speech read on her behalf by Mrs Justice Gifty Dekyem, a High Court Judge, at a church service to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Tesano Baptist Church in Accra last Sunday.

It was held on the theme: "40 Years of Proclaiming Christ; Celebrating His Faithfulness."

The church began in a small room in 1975 but it has more than 3,000 members now and more than 40 branches in and outside Accra.

Maturity

The Chief Justice said the attainment of 40 years meant that the Tesano Baptist Church had attained maturity.

Therefore, she said, the church should put aside all amateur programmes and focus on programmes that would benefit society.

Mrs Justice Wood asked Christians to do things that would please God and not to expect any reward or praise from men.

Biblical discipline

The Head Pastor of the church, Reverend Kweku Haziel, charged the members to restore Biblical discipline to raise godly men and women.

He asked the members to keep in focus the sacrifices made by their pioneers and those who were still contributing in diverse ways towards the growth of the church

He tasked future leaders of the church to support efforts to raise a generation of holistic and transformational leaders "to impact every fabric of our society with the gospel for national transformation, using Kingdom principles and virtues."

He expressed the hope that the future of the Tesano Baptist Church would be glorious, but acknowledged that there were challenges ahead.

God’s faithfulness

The President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, said the growth of Tesano Baptist Church from a humble beginning to its present state was “a sign of God's faithfulness to the church."

He, therefore, charged the members to always remember God's favour and rededicate themselves to God's work.

The Vice-President of the Ghana Baptist Missions, Rev. Enoch Thompson, lauded the Tesano Baptist Church for propagating the gospel within and outside Accra.

He stressed the need for the church to build the human capital needed for the socio-economic development of the country.
