Church of Pentecost undertakes clean-up at Madina

The Madina Area Church of Pentecost (MCP), in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, Pent-ayagreen Environment, last Saturday undertook a clean-up exercise at Madina in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality in Accra.

The two groups cleared gutters of silt and swept pavements from the Madina Zongo Junction to the Madina Social Welfare area. Workers of the Zoomlion Company Limited,  who were on site, collected the refuse that was piled.

Wearing green, white and yellow dresses, more than 700 members of the church, under the direction of the Area Head of MCP, Apostle Anthony K Ahalivor, took part in the exercise.

According to the leadership of the two organisations, the exercise was geared towards ensuring that the environment was clean.

In addition, they said the activity was undertaken as a complement to the National Sanitation Day exercise.

Cleanliness

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Apostle Ahalivor said insanitary conditions constituted a problem facing the country that required immediate attention.

“We are undertaking three projects in one; first, people are being educated on cleanliness, we are actively involved in the cleaning activity ourselves and we are also planting trees to make our environment clean.

“The exercise should be seen as part of our social responsibility as a church and it is an activity that will be carried out every month in association with the National Sanitation Exercise,” he said.

Apostle Ahalivor, under the circumstances, encouraged the public, particularly members of the church, to clean their environment regularly.

Commendation

The Municipal Chief Executive of the LaNMMA, Mr Franklin Anku, commended the church for undertaking the exercise.

According to him, the gesture was the basis for nation building since a nation was only built when everyone was involved.

Mr Anku consequently assured the church of the assembly’s support.
