Christians, Muslims unite in clean-up exercise

Religious organisations at Madina, a suburb of Accra, have jointly undertaken a massive clean-up exercise to promote a healthy environment.

The exercise was organised by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Madina District of the Department of Ecumenical and Social Relations (ESR) and the Madina Muslim Community. It formed part of activities outlined for the second Madina Interfaith Dialogue. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) also supported the exercise with cleaning equipment.

Speaking after the exercise, the Co-ordinator of the Madina District of PCG, Mr Francis Ahene-Affoh, said the collaboration between the two religious groups was to promote constructive interfaith dialogue, foster a sense of communion between people of different faiths and to promote proper sanitation in the community.

He advised residents of the area to constantly ensure that their environment was clean and work together to promote a healthy environment.
Mr Ahene-Affoh said the ESR was determined to break the trend by seeking a proactive, sustainable approach and to promote peaceful co-existence with people of all faiths.

Upcoming forum

The interfaith dialogue was crowned with a forum on the topic: “Promoting interfaith dialogue - a clarion call to promote peaceful co-existence” and was chaired by the district minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Madina, Rev. Michael Anim-Tete.

Speakers at the forum included Rev. Duke Hammond, the Resident Minister of the Saviour of Saviour Presbyterian Church, Madina West, Imam Sheikh Yunus Ibrahim from the Ahlusuna and Imam Sheikh Mutawakil, the Chief Imam of Madina Tijaniyya.
