The participants, drawn form Obuasi, Kumasi, Techiman, Sunyani, Konongo/Mampong, Goaso and Wiawso arc-dioceses, were recently trained in entrepreneurial and skills management in Sunyani on the theme: “Provision of small medium enterprises (SMEs) development support services leading to Economic Empowerment.”

The programme is being undertaken through sponsorship from the Skills Development Fund (SDF) that is being managed by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) and the CMA as part of the organisation’s programme to train 90 female entrepreneurs from the northern, middle and southern zones in prudent financial management, small-scale business management, record keeping, banking culture and how to access micro credit.

Speaking at the ceremony, the National President of the CMA, Madam Cecilia Quansah,  said the CMA,  which is a non-governmental organisation in the Catholic Church, had a passion to make poor women productive, adding that it sought funding to refocus on skill training following a need assessment from the diocesan presidents.

She said the objective of the programme was to help members to establish their businesses and run them well.

The CMA operates in 18 out of the 19 dioceses in Ghana and has a current active membership of about 26,000 women.
