Chinese Government provides classroom block for Bereku

The Chinese Government has further deepened its bilateral relations with Ghana with the construction of a modern classroom block for the Awutu Beraku D/A Basic School in the Central Region.

The six classroom block, which was solely financed by the Government of China, has facilities which will improve academic standard of the pupils.

The block also has a head teacher’s office, a staff common room, a library, an ICT laboratory and a place of convenience. The project also included the renovation of an unused school building, all at a cost of $250,000.

The educational facility was lobbied for by the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency, Ms Hanna Serwaa Tetteh.

Facilities

Additional facilities accompanying the project are 303 sets of desks and chairs, 30 computers, a projector, 15 UPS and 30 Wi-Fi connection cards, two air conditioners, 12 sets of desks and chairs for the head teacher and teachers.

The rest are five file cabinets, five bookcases for the library, 15 cupboards and six platforms, all provided at a cost of $65,000.

Inauguration
At a well-attended ceremony to hand over the classroom block at Awutu Beraku, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Sun Baohong, commended the contractor that executed the project, officials of the Awutu Senya District Assembly and the community members for their efforts towards the early completion of the project.

She expressed optimism that the project would positively impact the lives of the pupils and called on the students to pursue academic excellence in order to achieve success in their future endeavours.

She stated that the execution of the project symbolised the long-lasting friendship between both countries, stressing that the Chinese Embassy was ready to work with the Government of Ghana for their mutual benefits.

Minister
Ms Tetteh, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, said “the acquisition of formal education makes a difference in the lives of people as well as pulls them out of poverty.”

She expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for its support, as it is a witness to the long-standing relations between the two countries.

DCE
The District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya, Mr Sampson Abbey Armah, admitted that the area was rural and that education was the only tool that would make them competitive in today’s global world.

He said the school would serve as a benchmark for the construction of new basic schools in the district.

Chairman
The Adontenhene of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Ncharkey Okine VII, who chaired the function, thanked the Chinese Government for its support and expressed gratitude to the MP for her hard work that had attracted a lot of development projects into the district.
