Chinese Chamber of Commerce supports GIS with computers and motorcycles

Two Chinese investors have donated twenty sets of computers worth GhȻ80,000 and 20 motorcycles to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The President of Ghana China chamber of Commerce (GCCC), Mr Zheng Shengli and Mr Tang Hong, a Chinese entrepreneur who donated the items said the gesture was to support the work of the immigration service and also deepen the relationship between Chinese investors and the Immigration Service.

The Ghana Chinese Chamber of Commerce is a business community of Chinese nationals with a wide range of businesses who seek to promote and strengthen communication and cooperation among investors and their common interests in Ghana.

Receiving the items, Mr Cletus Avoka, Chairman of the GIS Board expressed appreciation at the gesture which he said will not only augment the capacity of the service to perform its duties but also enhance the cordial relationship between the Chinese community and the immigration service.

He said the Immigration service has a lean budget that cannot provide all the necessities needed to effectively run the institution therefore, the two donations were very timely and would go a long way to benefit the immigration service.

He stated that the motorcycles will be particularly useful in the rural areas where roads were bad and areas with unapproved routes to monitor the entry and exit of foreigners into the country. 

Madam Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana on behalf of the investors said the relationship between Ghana and China has registered remarkable achievements in economic and trade cooperation.  

The motorcycles

According to her, the mutual cooperation was evidenced by the technology transfer, numerous job opportunities and tremendous contributions Chinese were making to the long-term development of the country.

She said although the Chinese government protects the interests of its citizens abroad it will not shield those found on the wrong side of the law and therefore urged the Immigration Service to create a favorable social environment for investment to thrive.
