Chief provides land for police station
The Chief of Gomoa Pomadze in the Central Region, Nana Apata Kofi V, has released a parcel of land for the construction of a police station in the town.

The gesture followed an armed attack on some students of the Pan African Christian University College (PACUC) and the residence of some police personnel and civilians in the town a little over a week ago.
According to the chief, the land had been earmarked long ago for a shopping mall but due to the spate of robberies recorded in the town in recent times, he had no option but to release it for the police station.
Nana Apata Kofi disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting at Gomoa Pomadze last Wednesday to find a lasting solution to robberies in the area.
The meeting was attended by officials of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Gomoa East District Assembly, the Effutu Municipal Assembly, the Swedru Divisional Police Command, the Winneba District Police Command, chiefs and opinion leaders.
The stakeholders who attended the meeting pledged 220 bags of cement towards the project.
Nana Apata Kofi said he had personally made available 1,000 cement blocks, some trips of sand and stones, as well as 50 bags of cement to enable the project to commence immediately.
He added that as the Odikro of the area, he was worried about the increase in robbery cases so a stakeholders’ meeting had already been held to find a lasting solution to robberies in the area.
The Swedru Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Nana Asomah Hinneh, commended the chief for the initiative.
He called on the leaders of towns along the Swedru-Winneba road to collaborate with the police to form neighbourhood watchdog committees in the absence of police stations, to augment the efforts of the police who patrol the area.
The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, called for public support to complete the project.
The Gomoa East District Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, called on the general public to volunteer information to the police to help reduce crime in the area.
It would be recalled that on Monday, September 2, 2013, about five armed robbers attacked some students of PACUC at their hostel, after which they also attacked some police officers at their residence.
The incident led to the death of two lance corporals, Emmanuel Tetteh, 36, and Francis Appiah, 28, who were mistakenly shot by a police patrol team.
