Central Regional Prisons Commander retires

A pull out ceremony has been held at the Ankaful Maximum Security Prisons to symbolise the retirement of the Central regional Commander of Prisons Service, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Cephas Mantey.

Mr Mantey was first transferred to Ankaful Main Camp Prison in 2015 and has worked for over 30 years with the service.

The Director-General of Prisons, DGP Patrick Missah for his part said that DDP Mantey is one of the most honest commanders he had come cross in the service.

He said it was not surprising that he rose through the ranks to become the regional commander of the service.

He commended DDP Mantey for his hardworking and dedication to duty and wished him well in his retirement.

The incoming commander, DDP Nicholas Arthur, said the basic feeding fee of GH¢1.80 per day was not enough and appealed for an increment.
Infrastructure

He appealed to government to support the prison service with more pharmaceuticals and with toiletries and to keep the prisons in a good state.

He also urged the government to build more classrooms facilities in the prisons to help educate the prisoners.

He expressed gratitude to management for the confidence reposed in him on his appointment as the regional commander of the service.

The Deputy Regional Minister, Thomas Adjei Baffour speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister said DDP Cephas Mantey was a hardworking and progressive commander who upheld integrity in the discharge of his duties.

In his address, DDP Mantey said had no Idea that it was a transit point in his journey to head the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison and the Central Regional Command of the Ghana Prisons Service.

He said the task had not been easy but commended his officers for supporting him to achieve a lot together in the area of prisoner management, security and infrastructural development.

He, therefore, expressed his appreciation to all officers for their cooperation during his tenure as the regional commander.

DDP Cephas Mantey urged all officers to be hardworking, law abiding and to cooperate with the new commander DDP Nicholas Arthur as he strives to continue from where he left off.
