Calm returns to Abura Dunkwa after youth went on rampage

Calm has returned to the Abura Dunkwa community after rampaging youth last Sunday burnt down five houses in a Malian community in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District in the Central Region.

It followed the murder of a man, Benjamin Acquah, 56, an act the youth suspect was carried out by members of that community with foreign nationals.

Until his death, Acquah was a security guard at the GCB Bank Limited at Abura Dunkwa.

According to an eyewitness, the lifeless body of Acquah was found in the town last Saturday night after he left home with a machete in rage that he was going to deal with a group of people who were threatening him with death.

Minutes after he left home, his body was found lying supine in the community of the Malians.

That, it said, infuriated the youth in the Abura community, who decided to destroy property belonging to members of the Malian community.

Widow

The widow of the deceased, Ms Afu Anowa, told the Daily Graphic that her husband returned from work last Saturday evening with a complaint that a group of people were threatening to behead him.

She said Acquah then picked up a machete and left the house that night.

Hours later, she said, news came that her husband had been murdered.

The Deputy Crime Officer of the Abura Dunkwa District, Supt Augustine Anyarah, said the police had begun investigations into the heinous crime.

He advised the youth against taking the law into their own hands.

Arrest

Earlier this month, a linguist at Abura Dunkwa, Okyeame Kojo Ankomah, and his wife, Ohemaa Efuah, were found dead in a pool of blood with their throats slashed at their residence at Abura Dunkwa.

The Central Regional Police Command arrested a man, Maswood Ali Baba, in connection with the murder of the two.

It said preliminary investigations indicated that Maswood Ali Baba lodged with the deceased couple on the night of their death.

The suspect has been remanded in police custody to appear in court.
