Brong Ahafo: FDA cautions public on expired products on shelves

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public against expired goods on shelves especially during festive occasions like Easter.

According to the Brong-Ahafo Regional office Head of the FDA, Mr Matthew Gyan Nkum people take advantage of festive occasions to stock their shelves with expired goods and has therefore asked the public to be on the lookout.

In an interview with Graphic Online, he said his outfit has already gone round to remove unwholesome consumable items from shelves to help avoid food contamination during the Easter festivities.

He said the storage and handling conditions, FDA registration number and the integrity of products should be the things people should look out for before purchasing goods.

Mr Nkum also entreated shop owners to be careful when dealing with private distributors, explaining that some of the distributors sometimes mix expired or fake products with their goods, making it difficult to detect.

According to him, the FDA was working hard in the region to ensure that the sale of fake products in grocery shops, table tops, containers, kiosks including pharmaceutical and chemical shops stopped.
