Brakwa initiates four-year development plan

The Town Development Committee (TDC) and the people of Brakwa in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District in the Central Region have initiated a four-year development plan with the target of improving their standard of living.

This was announced at a durbar held in the town last Saturday to receive the newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Isaac Odoom, who was on a familiarisation tour of the District.

In attendance were Nana Yaa Asantewaa, III, Queenmother of Brakwa; the Regent, Nana Kofi Nkonguah, stool elders and the four assembly members at Brakwa.

Mr Odoom told the gathering that any community that encountered insecurity was bound to experience a slowdown in development. He thus appealed to communities with protracted chieftaincy disputes to have them resolved quickly in order for them to become united and cooperate to develop their communities.

He pledged the assembly’s support of 30 bags of cement and two packets of corrugated roofing sheets for the renovation of the Islamic “B” Basic School.

Four-year development plan

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency shortly after the programme, the Secretary for the Town Development Committee, Abusuapanyin Francis Kofi Amankrah, said the plan for the town’s development included upgrading the community clinic into a polyclinic, tarring of the Ohenbronoso by-pass road to link the Abrodiase road; construction of a community library and renovation of the Islamic “B” Basic School.

Abusuapanyin Amankrah said the town had expanded and as such the TDC was working with the district assembly and other stakeholders to extend electricity, KVIPs and potable water to the outlying areas.

He said levying the people for development projects was a source of worry, since they were mainly subsistence farmers.

He urged the Ministry of Agriculture to post a permanent resident officer to the Cocoa Health Extension Division (CHEV) of the COCOBOD in Brakwa.

The Abusuapanyin further called on the Ministry of Education to provide a bungalow for the headmistress of the Brakwa Senior Secondary/Technical School (BRASTECH).

Besides visiting the Brakwa town, the DCE also visited Kokoso, Fosuansa, Jamra, Towoboase, Amanor, Asantem, Ofabir, Abandan, Afofosu, Asuokoo, Ogonaso, Otabilkwaa, Eshiem and Petukyer.
