The honour was bestowed on him by the chiefs and people of Adum Banso in appreciation of the company’s immense contribution to the development of the community.

Mr Hor, 67, who hails from Malaysia, was paraded through the principal streets of the town accompanied by traditional and brass band music while the people jubilated .

He swore the oath of allegiance to Nana Kwandoh Brempong III, the Chief of Adum Banso.

In a citation that was presented to him, the chiefs and people of Adum Banso extolled the good works Mr Hor was doing for the town, describing him as an indispensable partner in development.

The Estate Manager of BOPP, Mr Samuel Avaala, who spoke on behalf of management at the installation ceremony, said Mr Hor had brought to the company a wealth of experience in the way its management was run following its takeover from Unilever Ghana.

In March 2011, Wilmar Africa Limited, a globally recognised Agric-Business with headquarters in Singapore, assumed operations of BOPP Limited. The General Manager of BOPP has 40 years experience in plantation management.

He said as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, it had committed about GH¢70,000 towards the construction of various infrastructural projects for the community.

He also said the company had rebuilt 18 kilometres of road in the area, including that from Benso to Bonso and linking Amantin, Dominase to Ayiem and Manso to Adum Banso among other communities. In addition, he said, a number of bridges and schools had been rehabilitated and drainage systems constructed to improve accessibility to and from the communities.

The Member of Parliament for Mpohor, Mr Alex Agyekum, commended management of BOPP for their achievements. He urged the government to reduce taxes that companies paid to it in order to enable them to develop the communities in which they operated.
