The Agona West Municipal Assembly has handed over three completed projects to the beneficiary communities within the municipality.
The projects are two public places of convenience for the people of Edukrom and Nsunan and a rehabilitated health centre for Agona Nkum.
Edukrom and Nsunan were faced with a peculiar sanitation problem that had arisen mainly because of the absence of proper public places of convenience. Under the circumstances, a section of the people defaecated in the open, resulting in outbreaks of diseases.
Until now, the old Nkum Health Centre, built in 1977, had not had any major rehabilitation and faced many challenges, including low patronage of the facility.
The rehabilitation works included rewiring of the entire centre, fixing of electrical fittings, refurbishment of beds, provision of new beds and curtains, painting of the building and plumbing works.
Member of Parliament
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, Mr Charles Obeng-Inkoom, said the benefit derived from voting was to have representatives who would help improve the living conditions of the people.“People vote governments into power to work to improve their lives,” he said.
He urged the communities to maintain the facilities to give them a long lifespan since the government had spent a lot of resources on their construction.
Mr Obeng-Inkoom said he was moved to use part of his MP’s Common Fund to rehabilitate the Agona Nkum health facility because of reports making the rounds that people in the area travelled long distances to seek medical care.
He said the health needs of the people in the constituency was among his top priorities and as such, he would work hard to improve all health facilities in the area.
Municipal Chief Executive
The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Samuel Oppong, appealed to the chiefs of the area to not sell lands around the health centre, saying such a move would affect future expansion of the facility.
He urged workers of the health centre to be courteous to patients because doing so would go a long way to improve attendance and help the centre to grow.
The Officer in charge of the Nkum Health Centre, Madam Ellen Ahiafor, admitted that since the health centre was rehabilitated, daily attendance of patients had improved.
