Ashanti Region MTTD impounds 82 motorbikes
The Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has impounded 82 motorbikes for various road traffic offences in Kumasi.

The motorbikes were impounded during a two-day exercise within the metropolis to instil discipline into motorbike riders in the region.
The exercise was also to clamp down on the activities of suspected criminals who used motorbikes, particularly the unregistered ones, to commit crimes.
Briefing
Briefing the media, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander of the MTTD, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Charles Ahiamale said the department had in recent times received complaints from the public about the activities of motorbike riders and how they flagrantly disobeyed road traffic regulations.
He said the department, therefore, mounted an exercise at the various intersections in the Kumasi metropolis where 82 motorbikes were impounded for various offences.
Offences, prosecution
Mr Ahiamale said the riders were arrested for riding motorbikes without licences, using motorbikes without insurance cover and riding without registration numbers.
He said those arrested for riding motorbikes without licences and insurance covers but were able to produce such documents later were released and their motorbikes given back to them.
However, those who failed to produce them would be arraigned and made to pay the necessary fines after which they would be made to procure the necessary documents before their motorbikes would be released to them.
Mr Ahiamale said the exercise would be sustained to ensure that sanity prevailed among motorcyclists.
