Asanko Women in Mining gives to two orphanages to fight COVID-19
The Asanko mining firm chapter of Women in Mining (WIM) Ghana, has presented a number of Personal Protective Equipment worth more than GHC 15,000 to two orphanages in Manso Akropong and Anwiankwanta respectively.
The two communities are some of the most deprived in the area and lack the basic equipment to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Items
The items included boxes of hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets, tissues, thermometer guns and liquid soaps.
The Asanko WIM as part of its vision to bridge the gap between the rich and poor in their catchment areas and give hope to the underprivileged decided to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus.
The items were presented to "Heart Smile" at Manso Akropong in the Amansie West District and "Save Our Lives Ghana," of the Bekwai Municipality respectively.
The administrators in charge of both institutions, Mr Douglas Owusu and Ms Paulina Opei, received the items separately.

The president of Asanko WIM, Eunice Mawuenyo Dzokpo, a surveyor by profession said the fight against COVID-19 was not only for the government but for all Ghanaians.
She said the apparent resurgence of the virus among some sections of Ghanaians calls for restrategizing and a renewed recommitment to the fight.
Ms Dzokpo called on all agencies to partner government in enforcing the wearing of nose masks as a sure way of winning the COVID 19 fight.

Heart Smile was established by a Ghanaian female laboratory technician based in the USA in 2009 after years of supporting schools in the area with computers and other learning materials.
Ama Osei Bonsu, with support of the chief of Manso Akropong, Nana Odei Kwame II, decided to bring together children who may have lost a parent through galamsey to groom them for the future.
It started with providing free meals to attract children at public schools who were caught up in the galamsey web.
Before putting up the structure including a vocational school to house the 55 inmates (including 26 girls), Madam Bonsu provided motorbikes to facilitate those schooling outside the community to avoid dropping out.
About Save Our Lives Ghana
Save Our Lives Ghana was started by a health workers, a midwife, Ms Paulina Opei, some 27 years ago.
Having seen women die from childbirth with no one to cater for their babies, Ms Opei used her little savings to start the orphanage to save the lives of the children.
Now in retirement, the woman from Peki in the Volta region is being assisted by her first batch of students most of whom occupy very important positions in the society.
Some have even become administrators, teachers and are helping the charity in various ways.
Ms Opei wants the government and corporate support to complete some of her facilities and also financial support to keep the home running.

Both Mr Owusu and Ms Opei expressed appreciation to Asanko WIN for the show of love. They also called for more support.
