The deceased has been identified as Iddrisu Hafiz but the injured, whose name was not given by the police, is said to be on admission at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital in the Upper East Region.

The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Anane, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said the armed robbers, numbering five and wearing masks, succeeded in robbing passengers on board the two buses.

He said the robbers, who had mounted a roadblock at the scene, fired into the Sprinter bus after the driver had refused to stop which resulted in the death of Hafiz and the injury to one person.

DSP Anane added that the STC bus, which later arrived at the scene, was also attacked and the passengers on board robbed of their mobile phones and money.

He said the incident happened around 6.30 a.m, adding that the passengers on board the sprinter bus, who were mostly traders, were going to trade at the Sankanse Market in Togo.

The regional crime officer said the robbers later fled the area and the police had mounted a search for them.
