The two, whose names are yet to be released by the police, escaped on Sunday through the cell windows after cutting the iron rods with a hacksaw blade.

According to the District Chief Executive of area, Kwame Adarkwa, he had information prior to the incident that someone who had come to visit the suspects tried to smuggle a hacksaw blade into the cell in a food package.

He said when the incident was brought to the police’s attention, no action was taken and the following day he was informed that the two suspects had escaped.

This is the third report in less than a month that suspects in police cells have escaped from lawful custody.

On Monday, two remand prisoners escaped from lawful custody from the Tepa District Police in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region.

The two also escaped through the cell window using hacksaw blades.

The first incident of a cell break was recorded in March at Denu in the Volta Region when seven remand prisoners escaped with two police rifles.
