An ex-convict and his accomplice busted for robbery

Luck eluded a 28-year-old ex-convict and his accomplice when the two were arrested for breaking into a room at Ashalley Botwe, a suburb of Accra.

The ex-convict, Ayuba Mohammed, an auto mechanic, and Isaac Anim, a driver’s mate, used a chisel and a sledgehammer to break the metallic security door of a hairdresser and attempted to steal her belongings.

They were however unlucky when the victim caught them in the act, shouted for help and the two were arrested by some residents who handed them over to the police.

 

Speaking to The Mirror in Accra, the Madina District Crime Officer, DSP Michael Happy Addae, explained that on October, 15, 2015 at about 8:00 am, Mohammed told Anim to accompany him to Ashalley Botwe to steal. The two stole a 42-inch Samsung plasma flat screen TV,  decorder, home theatre, an HP laptop, mobile phone, a bag containing 12 pieces of wax print and GH2,000.00.

“Unsatisfied, the two hid their booty in a nearby uncompleted building while Mohammed went back into the room and Anim kept watch over their booty,” DSP Addae said

Upon the return of the victim, she met Mohammed ransacking her room but on seeing her, Mohammed pushed the victim to the ground and run away. The victim however shouted for help, which drew the attention of residents, DSP Addae added.

He said, sensing danger, Anim who was keeping watch over the booty in the uncompleted building, took to his heels but a hot chase by neighbours led to his arrest and the HP laptop and mobile phone were found in his bag.

Mohammed was also arrested later by the residents and the two were handed over to the Madina District Police Command together with the exhibits. Three cloths and the GH₡2,000.00, however, could not be traced. The two  have been charged with  conspiracy to commit crime and  causing unlawful damage and unlawful entry.

DSP Addae cautioned the public to be security-conscious at all times, and report any suspicious behaviours displayed by ex-convicts for surveillance to be mounted on them, adding that, thieves had now developed a new strategy and could  break the so-called security doors.
