AME Zion in 50-day fasting for Ghana
The Presiding Prelate of the Western West Africa Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church, Bishop Seth O. Lartey, the Directorate of Spiritual Discipline and the leadership of the church have called for a 50-day prayer and fasting for Ghana and the Church.

All the church’s congregations in the episcopal area, comprising Ghana, Togo, Liberia, and Cote d’ivoire were directed to embark on this fast with effect from September 8 – October 27, 2013.
The programme is to thank God for the peace and stability in Ghana and also for peace and progress in the A.M.E Zion Church in the Western West Africa Episcopal District and the church worldwide.
A statement issued by Rt. Rev. Dr. Seth O.Lartey, said the leadership of the West Africa Episcopal District of the A.M.E Zion Church wished to acknowledge God’s blessing on Ghana, which continues to propel the country to greater heights in the areas of social, economic and political governance.
It said the most recent one was the way and manner the parties to the 2012 election petition graciously accepted the final judgement of the nine-member panel of the Supreme Court that ruled on the case.
“It made Ghana stand very tall again in the international community of nations as a country that is giving practical meaning to the rule of law and constitutional governance and not ready to tread the path that can destabilise the national cohesion required for further progress in all spheres of national life.
Ours is a continent that is struggling to shed off the image of violent conflicts with the attendant loss of life and property, a portion which we do not seek to be our lot. The eyes of the international community, especially investors, are firmly fixed on Ghana, and we pray that no single individual or group of persons will engage in any activity that will tarnish the enviable image the country has carved for itself,” it said.
The statement commended President John Dramani Mahama and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo, for their show of political maturity by waiting patiently on the Supreme Court to pronounce its decision on the election petition that travelled for close to eight months.
“We pray that the qualities of patience and tolerance that the parties to the election petition have exhibited will be a great source of inspiration to all citizens of the country to live peaceably with one another, so that with unity of purpose all Ghanaians will come on board the “development train” to accelerate national progress for all to enjoy improved standard of living.
