The monthly allowance, which is paid by the government, is to help facilitate the work of chiefs and traditional leaders across the country.

The President says the increment is in fulfilment of a campaign promise he made in the run-up to the 2016 election.

Speaking at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi, President Akufo Addo said the government is committed to addressing challenges chiefs across the country are faced with.

“The allowances for chiefs and queen-mothers of the National Houses of Chiefs have been increased by 100 percent, and payments by government are up to date. As I speak, the fourth quarter allowances are being processed. Quarterly budget support to traditional councils and houses of chiefs have also been increased by merely 60 %.”

“I am aware that there are other issues of infrastructure and logistics which are all being addressed. The Chief of Staff and the Office of the President is working hard to resolve the problems of mobility that you have in this house so you can have the cars to do your work,” he said
