Akyem Aboabo Salvation Army Primary School gets new building

A six-unit classroom block built for the Akyem Aboabo Salvation Army Primary School, near Akyem Oda, was last Thursday handed over to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The facility has an office, a store, library and information and communication technology (ICT) centre and is connected to electricity.

The structure which cost GH¢450,000 was financed by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and supported by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo.

The building is the second school block the MP has provided for the community within a period of seven months.

The first was a three-classroom block with an office and a store for the Aboabo Salvation Army Kindergarten.

MP’s address

Mr Quaittoo praised Samotrust Company Limited, the construction firm that put up the building, for not only doing quality work but also completing the project on schedule.

He said the new school block had replaced a dilapidated one which put the pupils at the mercy of the weather.

Mr Quaittoo said two similar classroom blocks were under construction at the Oda Salvation Army Basic School, while a clinic was also being built for the people of Oda Nkwanta.

Maintenance

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Ms Victoria Adu, said it was the government’s aim to give all communities in the municipality their fair share of development projects without discrimination on political lines.

She advised the teachers and pupils to take good care of the facility while urging the community to contribute towards the regular maintenance of the building in order for it to last long.

NPP commended

The Krontihene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Sarfo Kyereh II, commended Mr Quaittoo and the government for their commitment to develop the Birim Central Municipality in particular and Ghana as a whole and urged them not to relent in their efforts.

He commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the free senior high school policy which had enabled children from poor homes to have access to secondary education.

The Aboabo Krontihene, Nana Adomako Ankrah, and the Assembly member for the town, Mr Emmanuel Appiah Kubi, also commended the MP for the many development projects he had initiated in the town and called on the people to retain him as MP in the 2020 parliamentary election.

They appealed to the MP to provide the school with a toilet facility.

Nana Abu Bonsra of Arkito Consult, supervisors of the project, handed over the keys to the building to the MCE, Ms Victoria Adu, who in turn handed them over to the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Benjamin Cudjoe.
