The chiefs and people of Akoefe -Tokor in the Ho Municipality in the Volta Region have launched a community development plan known as the “Gligbafia Foundation” to address the myriads of challenges confronting the area.

The foundation seeks to mobilise natives of the area to contribute towards the infrastructure development of the area and to address human resource deficits facing the community.

Akoefe -Tokor is a sprawling community saddled with the problems of youth unemployment, health and sanitation, access to potable water, inadequate education infrastructure and lack of skill training centres.

The event, which was attended by natives from near and far and members of the surrounding communities, was, therefore, used to raise funds as seed capital for the foundation.

Target

The community has set a target of GH¢100,000 for the foundation, but realised almost GH¢15,000 at the maiden event held at Akoefe -Tokor last Saturday.

The ceremony was used to commemorate the second anniversary of the coronation of the Dufia of Akoefe Tokor, Gligbafia Togbe Kakla Akoe Dosor IV, and Dunyonufia Duwofenor Mama Amua Kosuba II.

In an address, Togbe Dosor IV pledged his support towards education in the area to produce the needed human resource towards the development of the community and the country at large.

He, therefore, called on his people and philanthropists to contribute funds and resources to the foundation.

Togbe Dosor also urged his people to ensure unity and peaceful co-existence among themselves, saying that was the spirit their forefathers adopted to transform the area to its current state.

He, therefore, advised them to be proactive, but tolerant of each other’s opinion to eliminate any form of litigation which would jeopardise the relative peace they were enjoying.

Guest of honour

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Mr Benjamin Kpodo, who was the guest of honour, expressed his gratitude to the Dufia and elders of Akoefe Tokor for such a transformational initiative.

He urged traditional leaders in his catchment area to emulate the initiative to complement the government’s efforts at bringing development to rural communities.

The MP gave GH¢2,000 as his initial support to the foundation and pledged another GH¢1,000.

The guest preacher for the occasion, the Volta Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Joseph Senyo-Pongo, in his sermon, admonished Ghanaians to support traditional authorities to bring the needed development to their communities.
