This project is expected to help reduce child mortality and improve maternal health .
It will comprise an out-patients department, a maternity ward, a general ward, consulting rooms and laboratories.
The Dawhenya Health Centre had its maternity section closed down because of the dirty environment and dusty nature of the road.
Patients, including pregnant women, had to journey to either Tema, Ashaiman or Prampram to receive medical attention.
Speaking at the sod cutting, the Coordinating Director of the Ningo–Prampram Assembly, Mr Samuel Nana Andoh–Owusu, commended Agapet for giving back to society and expressed the hope that the project would be completed shortly to curb the difficulty in transporting pregnant women to long distances to deliver.
He disclosed that the Dawhenya Health Centre had virtually been closed down and its staff re-assigned because of insecurity and other related health difficulties which did not make the facility safe for pregnant women in particular and their new-born babies.
Mr Andoh-Owusu pointed out that the assembly was planning to upgrade the health post at Prampram to the status of a Polyclinic.
He was of the view that it would help prevent over use of the modern facilities proposed by Agapet .
Mr Andoh–Owusu said Dawhenya was fast growing with new settlements springing up and would need the expansion of facilities to meet the demand .
The Health director of Ningo-Prampram, Mrs Ofori Ansah, said the lack of a maternity ward at Dawhenya had affected maternal care and increased child mortality rate.
The Chief of Dawhenya, Nene Kwaku Dapo, who assisted in the acquisition of the land, expressed gratitude to the people and called for more assistance to help build the community .
The Managing Director of Agapet Limited , Mr Emmanuel Abledu, said the gesture was part of the company’s social corporate responsibility to help the communities in which it operated.
He said Agapet, which is a Ghanaian company, was engaged in transporting petroleum products to eight out of the 10 regions in Ghana .
Mr Abledu stated that the sod cutting for the health facility at Dawhenya had coincided with the 10th anniversary of the company .
