The 13 awardees include Pastor Dr Isaac Bimpeh Boateng, Dr Samuel Kwadwo Oppong, Nana Boadi Soadwa, Pastor Daniel Kyei Baffour Jnr, Mr Edward Kusi Ayarkwa, Mr Samuel Benefo and Madam Esther Boateng.

The rest are Mr Nelson Kwabena Owusu,  Mr Festus Boadi-Soadwa and Mr Mark Oppong Brenya. Posthumous awards went to Pastor Dr Emmanuel Denteh, Nana Kwame Boateng and Mr Christian Kudjoe.

The Chairman of the Awards Committee, Mr Justice Osei-Bempa, said the awardees had contributed to development in the area and it was fitting that the church showed its appreciation for their contributions.

He said he was hopeful that by the gesture, the youth and future generations, particularly those who hail from the area, would acknowledge that there was reward for hard work.

He said the contributions of Madam Esther Boateng, who is the first female from Afamanso to be trained as a professional teacher, were enormous.

Mr Justice Osei-Bempa also lauded Pastor Dr I.B. Boateng whom he described as a committed academician who was serving with the church’s premier tertiary institution, the Valley View University.

He said the church was also proud of Mr Edward Ayarkwa, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere South, for his contributions towards the development and well-being of the people of Aframanso and the district in general.

He said while some of the awardees had personally helped with road construction in the area, others had contributed in diverse ways towards the uplift of education in the area.

Launch of education fund

Elder Daniel Asare Mensah of the Afamanso SDA church launched the “Pastor Dr I.B. Boateng Education Fund.”

He said the fund was established with the motive to provide support for children in the area who would need financing for their education and to immortalise the pastor in whose name it was established.

The awards were presented to the recipients by Pastor Ben Abankwa Amoakohene, the President of the Mountain View Ghana Conference (MVGC) of the SDA, and Dr Oti Agyen, a lecturer at the Kumasi Campus of the University of Education, Winneba.

The posthumous awards were received by family members.
