Accused on trial bolts from courtroom

Prosecuting, Sergeant Henry Dery had told the court that Donyo was arrested by the police with a quantity of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp during a dawn swoop in 2012.

The prosecution said the police were awaiting report from the Police Forensic Laboratory which had conducted a test on the drug.

Just when the case was adjourned, Sergeant Dery called Donyo, who was in the dock, to come out so that he could be handcuffed and sent back to the Ho Prison on remand.

 At the beginning, the accused obliged and pretended to move towards the prosecutor but quickly changed his mind and broke six of the blades before jumping through the window about 10.20 a.m. to the surprise of all.

 The incident brought proceedings in the court to a halt for some time, as security personnel and the court officials joined in the effort to rearrest the accused.
