Accra West ECG launches ICT Expo

The Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched the maiden edition of its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Expo targeted at staff of the company.

The expo is on the theme, “Re-defining ICT to Provide Quality Service to Users”.

Activities of the expo include a three week training for staff on latest Microsoft 365 applications purchased by the company.

Launching the expo, the Director of ICT, ECG, Mr John Mensah, who deputised for the Managing Director, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, lauded the initiative, saying the expo was in line with the company’s drive towards automating all its processes and introducing advance technology into its operations.

“Currently, the fibre optic connection has been made to all districts, making our ICT network more robust and fast. The result is that, scenes of customers in long queues because the network is slow is now a thing of the past,” he said.

Mr Mensah assured that enough cyber security measures had been taken to protect the company’s vital data from getting into the hands of unauthorised persons.

The ECG has fibre optic cables installed across the country as part of the design and construction of all primary substations. This has improved the service quality and customer-waiting time spent to access the Company’s services.

The acting Accra West Regional General Manager, Engineer Emmanuel Ankomah promised the region’s resolve to champion the technological and digital innovations introduced by management of the company.

“Staff will be trained on Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Microsoft Teams and One drive for business. Benefits of the applications include ECG operations eventually becoming paperless, ability for us to hold virtual meetings and a general improvement in efficiency among staff,” he said.
