Accra-Dzorwulu Rotary earmarks GH¢100,000 for projects
The Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu, has launched a fund-raising campaign to support seven major projects earmarked in its 2016/2017 rotary year programmes.

The projects include, reconstructive plastic surgery for children with cleft and lip palate in selected rural communities in the country, the construction of borehole for the Gyankama community in the Eastern Region, the renovation of kitchen and canteen for the Dzorwulu community primary schools and a sexually transmitted infections sensitisation programme in selected senior high schools.
Others are water and sanitation projects for selected communities, blood donation and clean-up exercises in some communities in Accra.
The total cost of the projects is estimated at GH¢100,000.

At a presidential ball in Accra on the theme: “Rotary, serving humanity: Our responsibility”, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu, Mr Joe Ampem-Darko Antwi, reminded Rotarians to recognise their core values of serving their communities in any capacity when called upon.
Comparing the eradication of polio in greater parts of the world to the high rate of cleft and lip palate cases, which is gradually becoming a canker in the country, Mr Antwi said with dedication and commitment, the same results could be attained for the victims of cleft and lip palate.
“Some years ago, a cure for polio seemed a mirage. Rotary’s contribution in fighting to eradicate the disease illustrates the impact Rotarians can have in the world,” he said, adding that “our children must not be denied this opportunity to also smile in the society we all find ourselves.”
He, therefore, appealed to fellow Rotarians and well-meaning Ghanaians to donate generously towards the projects.
Commendation
In a goodwill message, the President of the Rotary International, Mr John F. Germ, commended the Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu for their initiative.
According to Mr Germ, the Rotary Council on Legislation has also adopted some innovative measures aimed at allowing the club to vary meeting times to attract more members.
“There is a need for the club to clear the many barriers to membership drive. There is an invitation to join a Rotary Club,” he indicated.

A member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Mr Roberto Annan Kwamin, who was the special guest of honour, lauded the club for relying on the two important principles of the Bible, which are “loving God with all one’s might” and “loving one’s neighbour as thyself” to bring smile on the faces of the underprivileged. He, therefore, encouraged members of the club to continue to do their best for their neighbours as that was what was pleasing to the Lord.
An appeal for fund towards the project yielded GH¢230,000.
