The five CHPS compounds were constructed with assistance from the Japanese Government at a cost of GH¢1,950,000. They are located at Tibani, Polee, Kojiehi, Korong-Yiri and Oulo-Oulkuu.

The new compounds bring the number of CHPS compounds in the region to 218. The compounds are being put up purposely to provide expanded healthcare services to deprived communities in the Upper West Region.

The acting Upper West Regional Director of the GHS, Dr Winfred Ofosu, inaugurated the facilities. He expressed disappointment in the fact that 40 out of the 218 compounds in the region were not functioning because of inadequate and obsolete equipment. He said the facilities lacked vaccine fridges and delivery tools.

He, however, expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government for funding and constructing all the 218 CHPS compounds in the region single-handedly.

Dr Ofosu urged the public to co-operate with health personnel who would be posted to work in the compounds for efficient and effective delivery of health services and advised parents, especially mothers, to have their children vaccinated against the six childhood diseases.

The Chief of Tibani, Naa Robert Loggah, on behalf of the beneficiary communities, assured the Japanese government of their cooperation and commended it for coming to their aid. He said with the CHPS compounds now in place, the people, especially pregnant women and children, would no more travel long distances to seek health care.
