It is also aimed at achieving the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) universal access to electricity by 2016.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum said the sector minister, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who inaugurat one of the projects at Akrampah in the Awutu Senya District, assured the people of the government’s commitment to improve their living standards and alleviate poverty, particularly in the rural areas of the country.

It said the minister further hinted of a comprehensive electrification programme by the Energy Ministry to ensure a rise in the national electricity access rate to 100 per cent by the end of 2016.

The statement said the minister also inspected the newly constructed ECG Bulk Supply Point (BSP) Project in Cape Coast.

He further paid a courtesy call on the DCE for the Awutu-Senya District Assembly, after which they both led a delegation to the Awutu Traditional Council, as well as the Dankwakrom Traditional Council in Cape Coast to discuss development issues in the area.
